EDIT: The book list

My top three favourite books right now – plus some noteworthy additions and what’s next on my reading list. Tell me, what are you reading?

01 August blue, Deborah Levy.

I am in love with this book. Beautifully written with just the right amount of melancholy, atmosphere and gentle twists amidst the turmoil of an identity crisis. Gently heartbreaking and breathtakingly beautiful with a side of dark humour.

Words I love from August Blue…

“That night I walked alone on the banks of the Seine. The moon and stars were bright. I let the stars enter my body and realized I had become porous. Everything that I was had started to unravel.”

02 Three Summers, Margarita Liberaki.

First published in 1946, this charming coming of age book was a delightful read. It’s nostalgic, slow and paints a beautiful landscape of Greece as it follows the lives of three sisters. When half of your social media feed is in Europe, this book provides a comforting landscape for your daydreams.

Words I love from Three Summers…

“That summer we bought big straw hats. Maria’s had cherries around the rim, Infanta’s had forget-me-nots, and mine had poppies as red as fire. When we lay in the hayfield wearing them, the sky, the wildflowers, and the three of us all melted into one.”

03 Writers & Lovers, Lily King.

Books that delve into the worlds of writers are often my favourite kind. This tender book is intentionally written with threads of grief, romance and above all finding the power to come into one’s own. Charming, inspiring, down to earth and funny – a divine read that I will happily revisit.

Words I love from Writers & Lovers…

“I finish the song and push my bike up the embankment. A few geese watch, their heads above the rest. Their necks look navy in the moonlight, their chinstraps pale blue.”
